Authentic Pizza Margherita Recipe: Classic Neapolitan Pizza Guide

*Hello, lovely readers! I’m off to Disneyland for a little vacation—don’t be too jealous! While I’m away, I’ve lined up some wonderful friends to share delicious recipes. Today’s guest is Alli, and she’s delightful. We’ve been friends for about a month and she runs a beautiful blog filled with mouthwatering photos. Be sure to check her out!

Hello! I’m Alli, and I’m thrilled to be sharing a recipe here at Dessert Now, Dinner Later. I blog at Cupcake Diaries, where I share recipes, crafts, party ideas, and other DIY projects.

I began blogging in 2007 as a personal journal while I was single and in college. I loved cooking, baking, writing, and photography, and in 2010 I combined those interests to start a recipe blog. That’s how Cupcake Diaries began.

Cupcake Diaries started as a recipe-focused site, but it’s grown into an “everything DIY, mostly recipes” blog. I enjoy sharing ideas and connecting with new friends, so please stop by and introduce yourself!

There’s no doubt about it—I love pizza. I could eat it every day. My husband and I have two little boys, and making pizza at home is a favorite family activity. Our three-year-old loves adding the toppings and piling on the cheese. This Margherita pizza is one of our favorites and perfect for a fun family meal.

Ingredients

  • 1 Pillsbury thin crust pizza dough, or your favorite pizza dough
  • olive oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, thinly sliced (or use minced garlic or garlic powder)
  • 1 large tomato, thinly sliced (the thinner the better to avoid sogginess)
  • 1 cup mozzarella cheese, grated
  • ¼ cup parmesan cheese, grated
  • 3 basil leaves, cut into strips

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 400°F. If you have a baking stone, place it in the oven while it preheats. If not, grease a cookie sheet with cooking spray and spread the dough out. Brush olive oil over the dough.
  • Scatter the sliced garlic evenly over the dough, then arrange the thin tomato slices on top. Mix half of the mozzarella with half of the parmesan and sprinkle that mixture over the pizza. Add the basil strips, then top with the remaining cheeses.
  • Bake for about 11 minutes, or until the crust turns golden brown if using Pillsbury thin crust dough. If you’re using a different dough, bake according to the package directions. Slice and enjoy!
