Is your family excited for Halloween? Mine certainly are — October brings all the cozy, silly Halloween traditions my kids adore. We enjoy the lighthearted side of the holiday, so I put together a simple, cute recipe you can make before heading out to trick-or-treat.

These hot dog mummies are easy and entertaining — perfect for getting kids involved. They can roll the dough into ropes and wrap their hot dogs, then giggle as they dip a pretend arm or leg in ketchup. It’s a silly, family-friendly way to celebrate.

You won’t believe how quick these are to assemble.

All you need are bun-length hot dogs and Rhodes white dinner rolls. A small knife and scissors help with cutting the arms and legs and portioning the dough.

Hot dogs with arms and legs cut with a knife.

Start by cutting the hot dog to create arms and legs. Leave roughly 1½ inches at the top for the head so the mummy still looks intact.

Dinner roll cut into pieces and rolled into strips.

Take one dinner roll and remove a small piece to use as the head wrap, then cut the remaining roll in half. Roll the small head piece into a 6–7 inch rope. Roll each of the other two pieces into 18–20 inch ropes.

Using one long rope, begin at the feet and wrap up one leg several times, continue around the waist, over a shoulder, and down the arm so it looks wrapped in bandages.

Dough wrapping right side of hot dog arm and leg.

Repeat on the other side with the second long rope, wrapping from the feet up around the body, across the shoulder, and down the arm to complete the mummy look.

Wrap the small rope around the head area a few times. Repeat this process for each hot dog until all are wrapped.

Bake on a greased baking sheet at 350°F (175°C) for about 15 minutes, or until the dough turns golden brown. Add two small dots of mustard for eyes and serve warm.
