Mint Truffle Muddy Buddies Recipe — Chocolate Peppermint Snack Mix

img 25 1

I’m a big fan of muddy buddies. They come together quickly and make a perfect party snack or holiday treat. Last year I tried a gingerbread version that was amazing, so this year I stuck with another favorite: an easy Mint Truffle muddy buddy.

This Mint Truffle variation is one of the simplest to prepare — just four core ingredients — and it tastes festive and fresh. I also discovered they’re a great snack to bring along for errands; my daughter happily munched on them in the shopping cart while we got groceries. They can be a little messy, but they kept her quiet and content, which was worth it!

Make a batch on Christmas Eve, put on a holiday movie, and enjoy a cozy evening with a bowl of these crunchy, minty treats.

Ingredients

  • 5 cups (150 g) Rice Chex Cereal
  • 9 oz (255 g) bag Hershey’s Mint Truffle Kisses
  • 1 Tbsp shortening
  • 1 ½ cups (180 g) powdered sugar
  • Optional: Mint and semi-sweet chocolate chips for garnish

Instructions

  • Unwrap the Mint Truffle Kisses and place them in a large microwave-safe bowl with 1 tablespoon of shortening. The shortening helps the chocolate melt smoothly.
  • Microwave the chocolate in short bursts: 30 seconds, stir, then 15 seconds and stir, repeating as needed until fully melted. Be careful not to overheat.
  • Gently fold the cereal into the melted chocolate until each piece is coated. Place the powdered sugar into a large gallon-size zip-top bag, add the coated cereal, seal the bag, and shake until the cereal is evenly dusted and no longer sticky. Transfer to a serving bowl and enjoy. Optional: stir in some mint or semi-sweet chocolate chips for added color and texture.
