I can’t get enough of muddy buddies — they’re irresistibly crunchy, sweet, and perfect for snacking. I tend to eat too many at once and sometimes regret it when my stomach complains, but I always dive back in. These are an apple-cinnamon take on the classic, a cozy fall twist that’s ideal as an after-school treat or simple dessert. My kids love munching on these while I finish prepping dinner, which may or may not be considered dessert-before-dinner behavior. Either way, they’re a hit. Enjoy!

This apple version brings warm cinnamon and a hint of nutmeg to the familiar white chocolate-coated cereal, finished with a fragrant muffin-mix coating. It’s easy to make, portable, and great for sharing — or hiding from the family when you want them all to yourself. Below is the simple recipe with ingredients and steps.

Ingredients
- 12 oz (340 g) white chocolate chips
- 1 Tbsp shortening or coconut oil, for thinning the chocolate
- 5-6 cups (150-180 g) Apple Cinnamon Chex cereal
- 7 oz (198 g) box Jiffy Apple Cinnamon muffin mix, about 1¼ cups
- ¼ cup (30 g) powdered sugar
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- ⅛ tsp ground nutmeg
Instructions
-
Place white chocolate chips and the shortening (or coconut oil) in a large microwave-safe bowl. Heat on 50% power for 60 seconds, stir, and repeat in 30–60 second intervals until smooth and fully melted. (Total time will vary; about 1½–2 minutes worked for me.)
-
Pour the Apple Cinnamon Chex cereal into the melted white chocolate and fold gently until the cereal is evenly coated.
-
In a gallon-size zip-top bag, combine the muffin mix, powdered sugar, ground cinnamon, and nutmeg. Add the chocolate-coated cereal to the bag, seal it, and shake until every piece is coated with the dry mixture.
-
Spread the finished muddy buddies on a baking sheet to cool, then transfer to a bowl or airtight container. Snack and enjoy!
