Homemade Taco Seasoning Recipe with Step-by-Step Video

Homemade Taco Seasoning is simple to make and full of flavor. You can easily adjust it to be mild or spicy, and there’s no MSG or strange additives. Use it to make the best taco meat with a few pantry staples—watch the video for a quick demonstration.

I’ve been making this Homemade Taco Seasoning for years. I first shared the seasoning as part of a taco meat recipe back in 2012 and have refined it since. It’s worth having a dedicated seasoning mix post because this blend is so versatile. I even made a short video to show how quick it is to put together.

This mix gives you control over the heat—add more or less cayenne and red pepper flakes to suit your taste. While you can use it like a store-bought mix (just add water), the flavor is deeper if you combine it with canned tomato sauce, a touch of brown sugar, and a spoonful of sour cream when making taco meat.

The BEST taco meat ever! It's saucy and full of flavor made with an easy homemade taco seasoning. A recipe the whole family will enjoy for Taco Tuesdays!

I keep these spices on hand in bulk so I can mix more whenever we run out. To prepare the seasoning, simply stir the spices together in a bowl. Optionally, pulse them briefly in a food processor or blender to help bring out the aroma and blend the dried pieces more evenly.

Once mixed, store the seasoning in an airtight container in a cool, dry place. It works with ground beef, turkey, or any recipe that calls for taco seasoning. I rarely buy the prepackaged packets anymore—this homemade blend is fresher and more flexible. I hope you enjoy it as much as we do.

Homemade Taco Seasoning is easy to make and tastes great! Adjust the seasoning to make it mild or hot. Plus there's no MSG or funky ingredients. Check out the video on how to turn this taco seasoning into the best taco meat ever!
