Marshmallow Treats

Marshmallow treats work with more than just Rice Krispies—almost any cereal can be used to create a tasty, colorful bar. I’ve tried Fruity Pebbles and other cereals, and each variation brings a different flavor and texture to the classic treat.

With St. Patrick’s Day around the corner, Lucky Charms felt like the perfect choice. The cereal adds sweetness, a satisfying crunch, and bright marshmallow shapes that make the bars extra festive.

These Lucky Charms marshmallow treats are perfect for packing in lunches, grabbing as an on-the-go snack, or serving as a quick, no-bake dessert for parties and gatherings.

Lucky Charms Treats Recipe

Ingredients for Lucky Charms Treats: Lucky Charms Cereal, Salted Butter, and Mini Marshmallows.

Only three ingredients are needed to make these homemade Lucky Charms treats:

  • Lucky Charms cereal
  • Salted butter
  • Mini marshmallows

How to Make Marshmallow Treat Bars

Steps to make lucky charms treats. 1- Melt butter and marshmallows together. 2- Pour over cereal. 3- Mix. 4- Spread in pan.

Once you have your ingredients ready, follow these simple steps:

  1. Melt the butter and marshmallows together in a large pan over medium-low heat, stirring constantly until just melted.
  2. Pour the melted marshmallow mixture over the cereal.
  3. Fold the cereal and marshmallow mixture together until evenly coated.
  4. Transfer the mixture into a greased pan and press it down evenly (avoid packing it too firmly).

Let the bars cool completely before cutting. Cooling at room temperature can take up to two hours; chilling in the fridge or freezer shortens this to about 15–30 minutes. Warm bars are delicious but a bit messy.

Store leftovers in the pan, covered tightly with foil or plastic wrap, for 5–7 days.

Recipe Tips

Here are a few tips to ensure great texture and flavor:

  • Use salted butter. Salted butter balances the sweetness. If you only have unsalted butter, add 1/2 teaspoon salt while melting the butter and marshmallows.
  • Avoid over-melting the marshmallows. Remove the pan from heat when marshmallows are nearly melted and continue stirring until smooth. Overheating can scorch the marshmallows and make cooling slower.
  • Save some marshmallows for the top. Press a few colorful cereal marshmallows into the surface after you press the mixture into the pan for a prettier presentation.
  • Pan options. Use one 13×9-inch pan or two 8×8-inch pans, depending on thickness preference.
  • Less cleanup. If you have a large stock pot (6+ quart), melt the marshmallows and butter in it, then add the cereal directly to mix—one fewer bowl to wash.
