Instant Pot Hard Boiled Eggs cook perfectly in minutes and are very easy to peel — ideal for breakfasts and holiday eggs.

I bought an Instant Pot after hearing my neighbor rave about hers. It looks like a rice cooker but can do so much more and makes many kitchen tasks faster and easier.

If the idea of a pressure cooker makes you nervous, the Instant Pot is a gentle introduction to electric pressure cooking. For a first-time recipe, hard boiled eggs are perfect — simple, quick, and reliable. I made a short video to show how easy it is to use.

Using the Instant Pot, eggs come out reliably cooked in about 5–7 minutes, depending on egg size and altitude, and they peel exceptionally well. If you struggle with peeling eggs for holidays or meal prep, this method can save time and frustration.

The Instant Pot speeds up cooking and clean-up. Once you get comfortable with a simple recipe like hard boiled eggs, you can explore many other dishes the appliance handles well.

Below is an easy, tested method for Instant Pot hard boiled eggs that yields consistent results.
Instant Pot Hard Boiled Eggs
Ingredients
- 1 cup water
- 6 Large/XL eggs (Or as many as fit in a single layer on the steam rack without stacking.)
Instructions
- Insert the steam rack into the bottom of the Instant Pot.
- Pour 1 cup of water into the stainless steel inner pot.
- Place eggs in a single layer on the steam rack.
- Close and lock the lid, making sure the vent is in the sealed position.
- Plug in the Instant Pot, power on, and press the MANUAL (or PRESSURE COOK) button.
- Set the cook time to 5, 6, or 7 minutes using the “-” and “+” controls. Shorter times give slightly softer yolks; longer times give firmer yolks. Adjust based on egg size and altitude. Test with a small batch if unsure.
- When the cooking cycle ends, perform a quick release by turning the valve to vent until steam stops and the float valve drops.
- Open the lid and transfer the eggs to an ice water bath until cool. Peel and serve or store.

Notes
- To store: Cool eggs completely in an ice water bath, then refrigerate for up to 1 week.
- To reheat in the microwave: Peel the egg, poke several holes with a fork, and heat about 30 seconds or until warm.
*Cook times increase at higher altitudes because water boils at a lower temperature; you may need to add time.
