My kids love helping me make holiday treats for neighbors. They’re young — six and four — so we look for projects that are easy and safe. Fruity Pebbles made a perfect base for these Krispie Treat Christmas Trees because the cereal is colorful and cheerful, like tiny tree lights.

We used Rolos for trunks, melted white chocolate for garlands, and assorted sprinkles to decorate. These treats are colorful, quick to assemble, and ideal for little hands to help with the fun parts.

Make the Fruity Pebbles Krispie Treats in a 13×9-inch pan. Lining the pan with parchment makes it easy to lift the entire slab out once cooled. Cut the slab in half lengthwise, trim one end at an angle, then slice back and forth to form triangle tree shapes.

Arrange the triangles on parchment or wax paper. Melt 1 cup white chocolate chips with 1 teaspoon coconut oil (or shortening) in short bursts in the microwave, stirring until smooth. Spoon the melted chocolate into a small zip-top bag, snip a corner, and pipe a zig-zag across each tree to mimic garland.

While the chocolate is still wet, sprinkle colored sugar crystals or sprinkles over the garland so they stick. Attach a Rolo to the base of each triangle using a small dab of the melted white chocolate to serve as the tree trunk. Let the chocolate set completely.

18 treats

Ingredients

  • 4 Tbsp (57 g) butter
  • 16 oz (453 g) mini marshmallows
  • 11 oz (311 g) box Fruity Pebbles cereal (about 7 cups)
  • 1 cup (170 g) white chocolate chips
  • 1 tsp coconut oil or shortening (for thinning)
  • Red, green, and/or silver sugar crystals or sprinkles
  • Rolos candy for the tree stumps

Instructions

  1. Grease a 13×9-inch baking dish or line it with lightly greased parchment paper.
  2. In a large non-stick pot, melt the butter over low heat. Add the marshmallows and stir constantly until melted and smooth.
  3. Remove from heat and stir in the Fruity Pebbles until evenly coated with melted marshmallow.
  4. Press the mixture into the prepared pan. Flatten it with a buttered measuring cup to avoid sticking. Allow to cool completely.
  5. Lift the slab from the pan using the parchment. Cut it in half lengthwise, trim one end at an angle, then slice back and forth to create triangle tree shapes. Place triangles on parchment or wax paper.
  6. Melt the white chocolate chips with the coconut oil in the microwave in 20-second bursts, stirring until smooth. Let cool slightly.
  7. Transfer the chocolate to a small bag, snip a corner, and zig-zag across each tree. Immediately sprinkle with colored sprinkles so they adhere.
  8. Attach a Rolo to the base of each tree with a dab of melted white chocolate. Allow the chocolate to set. Store the treats lightly covered at room temperature for up to 4 days.
