Pomegranate Banana Smoothie — a healthy, delicious smoothie that’s a perfect pick-me-up for the new year.

Hi friends — Mallory here from Chocolate with Grace. After the holidays I always crave lighter, nourishing foods. With flu season making the rounds in my family, I’ve been reaching for fresh fruit and simple, immune-supporting meals. Pomegranates are one of my go-to winter fruits: their ruby arils brighten smoothies, salads, and snacks, and they pair beautifully with banana.

Winter produce can be hit or miss — strawberries and blueberries are often expensive or mushy this time of year — so I stick with seasonal staples like oranges, grapefruit, kiwi and pomegranate. Right now I’m eating as many pomegranates as I can find. Those bright red arils are cheerful and add a lovely tart note to recipes.

This smoothie is quick and easy — ideal for busy mornings when you want something nutritious without fuss. It’s basically four ingredients blended until smooth. I like using whole pomegranate arils for freshness and flavor, but keep in mind the seeds create texture. If you prefer a completely smooth drink, swap in pomegranate juice and reduce other liquids slightly or add extra banana for creaminess. The banana’s natural sweetness balances the pomegranate’s tartness perfectly.

Pomegranate Banana Smoothie
Ingredients
- 1 ripe banana
- ¾ cup pomegranate arils (the jewels/seeds)
- ⅓ cup Greek yogurt
- 4 to 5 Tablespoons milk or pomegranate juice, to thin to desired consistency
Instructions
-
Place the banana, pomegranate arils, Greek yogurt and milk (or juice) into a blender. Blend until smooth, adjusting liquid to reach your preferred consistency. Serve immediately.
-
Note: using whole pomegranate arils yields a textured smoothie because of the seeds. For a silkier texture, substitute pomegranate juice and add an extra banana or a few strawberries.
