There’s something about autumn and comfort food that makes biscuits irresistible. They’re a simple, versatile bread that pairs perfectly with soups, stews, or breakfast sandwiches. These Bacon Cheddar Biscuits are flavorful and easy to make—great alongside a hearty soup or served on their own for breakfast.

To save time I used pre-cooked real bacon pieces, which are handy in baked dishes, salads, and scrambled eggs as well. I also added fresh green onions—there’s nothing like using herbs and produce from your own garden when they’re available.

These biscuits bake up crisp on the outside, tender and flaky inside, and packed with cheese and bacon flavor. Whip a batch up soon—you’ll love them!

Ingredients
- 2 cups (240 g) all-purpose flour, (stir, spoon & level)
- 2 Tbsp granulated sugar
- 1 Tbsp baking powder
- 1 tsp salt
- ⅓ cup (63 g) shortening
- ¾ cup (63 g) shredded cheddar cheese
- ¼ cup (28 g) real bacon bits (about 4 slices cooked and chopped)
- ¼ cup (18 g) green onion or chives, sliced
- ¾ cup (177 ml) milk
Instructions
-
Preheat the oven to 450°F (230°C). In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
-
Cut in the shortening with a pastry blender or two knives until the mixture resembles coarse peas.
-
Fold in the shredded cheddar, bacon bits, and sliced green onion or chives until evenly distributed.
-
Pour in the milk and stir just until the dough comes together and all the dry flour is moistened.
-
Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface. Knead gently four times, then pat into a disk about ¾-inch thick. Flour a biscuit cutter and cut biscuits, placing them on a prepared baking sheet lined with a silicone mat or sprayed with pan spray. Press scraps together gently—do not overwork—and continue cutting until all dough is used. This yields about 8 biscuits.
-
Bake at 450°F (230°C) for 10–12 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown. Remove and cool briefly on a rack before serving.
