What is a Miami Vice drink made of?
A Miami Vice is made by combining frozen piña colada and frozen strawberry daiquiri mixtures in one glass. The contrasting colors and flavors—creamy coconut and pineapple alongside sweet-tart strawberries—make it visually striking and delicious.
Miami Vice vs Lava Flow: The Miami Vice and the Lava Flow look very similar, but the Lava Flow usually includes banana in the piña colada portion, making a banana-pineapple blend that’s poured into the strawberry mixture to create a lava-like appearance. Both drinks are beautiful and tropical, but the flavors differ slightly because of the banana in the Lava Flow.

Ingredients Needed
This recipe is a family-friendly, non-alcoholic version—a mocktail made as a frozen smoothie. (No alcohol is included.)
*NOTE: Full ingredient amounts are included in the recipe card below.

Ingredients for the Pina Colada Mocktail:
- Pineapple juice – Adds tropical pineapple flavor and helps the mixture blend smoothly.
- Cream of coconut – A sweet, thick coconut mixer (different from unsweetened coconut cream). It gives the pina colada its signature creamy, sweet taste.
- Frozen pineapple – Adds fresh fruit flavor and contributes to a thick, frozen texture.
- Ice – Helps achieve the slushy, frozen consistency.
Ingredients for the Strawberry Daiquiri Mocktail:
- Tonic water or lemon-lime soda – Adds fizz and helps the daiquiri blend.
- Simple syrup – A mix of sugar and water used to sweeten the strawberry mixture to taste.
- Lime juice – Brightens and balances the sweetness with acidity.
- Frozen strawberries – Provide real strawberry flavor and a frozen texture.
- Ice – For slushiness and to help reach the right thickness.
- Water – Add a little as needed to adjust consistency when blending.
How to Make a Virgin Miami Vice Drink
NOTE: Full ingredient amounts and the printable recipe card are included at the end of the post.

- Add the pineapple juice, cream of coconut, frozen pineapple chunks, and ice to a blender. Blend on high until smooth, about 40–60 seconds. Divide the pina colada between two or three tall glasses. Rinse the blender.
- To make the strawberry mixture, combine tonic water or lemon-lime soda, simple syrup, lime juice, frozen strawberries, and ice in the blender. Blend on high until smooth, adding water a little at a time until you reach the desired consistency. Pour or spoon the strawberry mixture over the pina colada in each glass to create layers or a swirl.
- Garnish with fresh strawberries, lime wedges, or pineapple slices if desired. Serve immediately with a straw.

Recipe Notes
- How to layer: Tilt the glass while pouring the second mixture or spoon the strawberry mixture down the side to create diagonal layers or a swirled effect.
- Swapping ice: Replace some ice in the strawberry portion with additional frozen strawberries for a deeper red color and stronger berry flavor. Keep some ice in the pina colada portion to balance the sweetness and achieve a smooth texture.
This is a favorite cruise-order for many who prefer non-alcoholic options — simply ask for a Virgin Miami Vice and you’ll get the same tropical presentation without alcohol. Making it at home gives you the same taste for a fraction of the cost.

Make it with Alcohol
If you prefer an adult version, add rum to the pina colada and strawberry daiquiri mixtures. Use your favorite frozen daiquiri and pina colada cocktail recipes and combine them the same way to make boozy Miami Vice drinks.
