It’s that time of year again—stores are full of Halloween costumes and decorations, and my kids are already planning their outfits. At our house, the costume conversation seems to start the minute trick-or-treating ends and continues all year long. They love Halloween so much that it’s a running topic from November through the following October.

We recently moved about 70 miles north and this is our first Halloween in the new neighborhood. We live in a developing cul-de-sac and my kids are convinced we’ll have a flood of trick-or-treaters. Maybe not this year, but it’s fun to dream.

Our Halloween traditions usually include an hour of trick-or-treating between 6 and 7pm, followed by staying home to hand out candy. In past years we’ve added other fun stops—free cupcakes at a local bakery, fifty-cent corn dogs at Sonic, or $1 smoothies at Jamba Juice. Pizza is almost always our Halloween dinner because it’s easy and everyone loves it. Last year we made Mini Mummy Pizzas; this year I’m sharing a new festive favorite.

This candy corn pizza is simple to prepare and a hit with the whole family. Using frozen dough gives you that homemade pizza flavor with very little effort—just thaw a loaf in the fridge overnight and shape it on the pizza pan the next day. The design is playful and seasonal: layers of cheese mimic the candy corn colors, making it a fun dinner that cuts down on “what’s for dinner” stress right before heading out to trick-or-treat.

Candy Corn Pizza
Ingredients
- 1 loaf Rhodes white bread, thawed
- ½ jar of white sauce, (Alfredo or garlic parmesan)
- 1 ½ cups shredded cheddar cheese
- ¾ cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- Garlic salt, optional
Instructions
-
Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C).
-
Roll the thawed dough onto a greased pizza pan into a large circle.
-
Pre-bake the dough for 5 minutes to ensure a crisp crust. Remove from the oven and spread the white sauce evenly, leaving a 1-inch rim for the crust. Sprinkle with garlic salt if desired.
-
Sprinkle the mozzarella cheese in a circle in the center, then surround it with the cheddar cheese to create a candy-corn-style bullseye.
-
Return the pizza to the oven and bake for about 12 more minutes, or until the center bubbles and the crust turns golden brown. Slice and serve.
