Frozen banana and pineapple pair with mandarin oranges, fresh spinach, chia seeds, and milk (I used almond milk) to create a smoothie that’s rich in fiber and light protein. It’s easy to make, portable, and perfect for a quick recovery after a big holiday meal or before a busy day of shopping.

This smoothie is very forgiving and easy to customize. Stick to yellow and green fruits to keep the vibrant green color—adding red fruits will change the hue to brown. The flavor remains pleasant, but the handsome, bright green appearance will be lost.

1 large smoothie

Ingredients

  • 1 handful spinach
  • 1 frozen banana
  • 1 cup frozen pineapple chunks
  • ¼ cup mandarin orange segments (fresh or canned in their juices)
  • 1 cup milk (cow, almond, coconut, rice, etc.; almond milk suggested)
  • ½ Tbsp chia seeds
  • *Optional: additional ice for texture

Instructions

  • Place the spinach, frozen banana, frozen pineapple, mandarin segments, milk, and chia seeds into a blender.
  • Blend on high until smooth and creamy, scraping down the sides if needed. Add a few ice cubes if you prefer a thicker texture.
  • Pour into a glass or travel cup and enjoy right away.

Notes

Tips: Use frozen fruit for a thick, chilled smoothie without relying on a lot of ice. If you like a sweeter drink, add a splash of orange juice or a touch of honey. To boost protein, add a scoop of your favorite protein powder or a spoonful of nut butter.
