Make Valentine’s Day fun for the whole family with these easy, 3-ingredient heart shaped breadsticks!

My oldest is six and loves learning to cook. Each weekend we pick a simple recipe and I teach him the steps. This Valentine’s Day we made a kid-friendly, adorable treat: heart shaped breadsticks. They’re fun to shape, quick to bake, and a great way to introduce little ones to baking.
I use Rhodes frozen dough for most of our bread recipes — rolls, breadsticks, garlic bread, and pizza — because it’s convenient and bakes up with a fresh, homemade texture. For these breadsticks I used Rhodes white dinner rolls, thawed and ready to shape.
Ingredients
You only need a few items: thawed Rhodes white dinner rolls, garlic salt, shredded Parmesan cheese, an egg, and a bit of melted butter for brushing after baking.

How to Make Heart Shaped Breadsticks
Start by rolling each thawed roll into a rope about 1/2 inch thick and roughly 13 inches long.
Sprinkle garlic salt and shredded Parmesan on your work surface. Roll each dough rope in the topping to coat it, leaving the ends bare so you can shape the heart.

Pinch the two ends of the rope together tightly to form a teardrop. Then press the rounded top down into a point so it mirrors the bottom point — that creates the heart shape. Press extra cheese and garlic salt into any bare spots. Repeat with the remaining rolls.

Arrange the hearts on a silicone-lined baking sheet, leaving about an inch between each and alternating directions to fit them all. Cover with lightly greased plastic wrap and let rise for 30 to 45 minutes.
Beat the egg and brush it over the risen breadsticks. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 15–18 minutes, or until golden brown. When they come out of the oven, brush the tops with melted butter and serve warm.

The finished breadsticks are soft, flavorful, and irresistible—my baby loved nibbling on one. They pair perfectly with a special Valentine’s dinner and are a great way to get kids excited about mealtime.

There’s something about “fun food” that encourages kids to eat more. These heart shaped breadsticks were a hit at our table — gone in minutes.
